Playing in a group with different, complementary rhythms creates a sense of community. These rhythm sequences require mutual interaction, because only a group can combine these building blocks to form a complete melody. Drumming sensitizes the participants' awareness of themselves and of the group members. It is a process of social learning in the group. Rhythm is a language that can be used to express feelings in particular. Rhythm as a form of language promotes communication. No previous musical knowledge or talent is required for drumming!
